Carmelite Studies Program

Each August and January, the Provinces of St. Elias and the Most Pure of Heart of Mary sponsor a Carmelite Studies Program at Whitefriars Hall in Washington, D.C. This past week, about forty professed students, novices, interns and pre-novices – along with their formators, joined together to study the Rule of St. Albert – the biblical foundations of the Rule, the text of the Rule, and the spirituality of the Rule.

Father Craig Morrison, O.Carm, Sunny Bruijns, O.Carm., and Brother Patrick Mullins, O.Carm., gave the very fine presentations. In addition there were many prayerful liturgies, an evening visit to the National Mall and a Cultural Night during which Carmelites in formation in El Salvador, Peru and Mexico also participated via SKYPE.

On Sunday, August 18, Brother Jeffrey Lima, O.Carm. of the PCM Province pronounced solemn vows in the Order at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The Very Reverend William J. Harry, O.Carm., Prior Provincial of the Province of the Most Pure Heart of Mary, led the celebration.

Overall, it was a wonderful time of fraternity, learning and growth for all of the brothers in formation of the North American Region of the Order.
