MASS IN HONOR OF OUR LADY OF ANTIPOLO

On Saturday, 27 April 2024, the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in collaboration with the Fil-Am Catholic Community of Hudson Valley celebrated a Mass in honor of Our Lady of Antipolo. The pilgrim statue arrived at the National Shrine on Saturday, 20 April. People were invited and encouraged to pay a visit and pray a private novena to Our Blessed Mother.

The Mass was celebrated by the Most Rev. Efren Esmilla, Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia assisted by deacon Dr. Alex Gapay. The Mass was concelebrated by Very Rev. Mario Esposito, O.Carm., Prior Provincial and Rev. Gerard Tang Choon, O.Carm., Rector of the National Shrine. There was also several visiting priests and Carmelites that concelebrated. Brother Joseph Trung, O.Carm. and seminarians John Bulatao and Elvis Toribio from the Diocese of Brooklyn served as acolytes. The music was provided by the Filipino American Choir of Mahopac, New York. The Philippine Consul General Senen Mangalile and his wife also joined the Mass.

In his homily to the over 220 faithful who gathered, Bishop Esmilla talked about the importance of entrusting our problems to Our Lady of Antipolo, who grants us peace and guides us on our voyage. He also talked about our Blessed Mother’s fiat, her yes, and encouraged Filipinos to continue to spread the faith especially to the younger generation. Lastly, he encouraged Filipinos to continue having joy through a simple smile or gesture.

Following the Mass was a potluck fiesta honoring Our Lady. There were a variety of performances throughout the night that enhanced the celebrations. Let us continue to pray through the intercession of Our Lady of Antipolo that many people may continue to entrust their difficulties to her and that she may lead them all to her son, Jesus Christ.
